Lady, Give Yourself A Break!
I posted this about a year ago on my Blogger account. I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I needed to hear this advice myself…like a week ago!
Are you like me and caught in the cross-hairs of life, hemmed in by end of the year deadlines, the least of which is not Christmas? Have you reached your breaking point where just one more little (you fill in the blank) is about to send you into orbit?
Well. Let us take a deep breath in...then out, run a little bathwater and light some candles. It’s gonna be ok if we’ll only pay attention to the signs of stress, ask for help when needed and let some unnecessaries go. Here’s the piece from last year with a few upgrades… Enjoy! Dr. Lydia

Women, I'm talking to you: Why do we push ourselves beyond the breaking point during the Christmas season?
Take a minute and let that sink in...
Why?
Didn't Jesus come to us lowly, born in a manger...to SAVE us? Hmmm?
So I ask you again, Ladies: Why do we push ourselves beyond the breaking point during the Christmas season?
I have already seen casualties of the Holiday Rush in my office. Broken women: weeping, acutely ill with "The Crud" and about to throw out Baby Jesus with the bathwater of all of the stress of the holidays!
This breaks my heart. It certainly breaks Jesus’ heart. Lord knows, after seeing God’s Son born in a manger you’d think we’d’ve learned to make the celebration of his Advent a little more quiet and homely. Right. Right?
Advent is not about US; it’s about HIM. He was born in a manger. To two poor teenagers. His Heavenly birth announcement was sent to grubby shepherds. Who nobody believed or even wanted to be around. He lived in obscurity until God’s time to reveal him, and even then it wasn’t what the world expected. He was humble, compassionate and came to set people free. Free from the sin that lies to us and tells us that it’s how lively the festivities, delicious the food, expensive the gifts or how decorated the house looks. Jesus told Martha to leave Mary alone. Mary’s the woman to emulate at Christmastime.
So, for every woman like me who’s drowning in To-Do lists, end of the year deadlines, shopping, cooking, decorating and entertaining, I say “Stop!” Lay down your silicone spatula, take off your apron and sit at the feet of the Savior. He wants to give you rest.
Peace be with you and take care of yourself!
Blessings,
Dr. Lydia
